Bangladesh RMG export to India grows, China falls

Owing to the impressive performance of knitwear products, Bangladesh’s readymade garment export to India grew by 56.35 per cent, while it fell by 10.93 in case of China in the July-November period of FY 2017-18. According to the Export Promotion Bureau, RMG export to India increased to $87.43 million from $55.92 million in the same period of last FY. In the said timeline, knitwear export to India grew by 68.70 per cent to $30.12 million from $17.85 million.
Export earnings from China in the five months fell by 26.42 per cent to $283.96 million from $385.95 million. RMG export to China decreased by 10.93 per cent to $133.18 million from $149.52 million. Failure in maintaining lead time was cited as the major factors for losing export growth in China.

Job Fair held at BGMEA HQ for persons with disabilities

Bangladesh Business and Disability Network (BBDN) organized a job fair for people with disabilities in collaboration with Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) and Access Bangladesh Foundation with support from International Labour Organisation. Around 80 people with disabilities were recruited through instant interview during the day-long job fair held at the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) headquarters in Dhaka. A total of 300 disabled people attended the fair where some 30 companies participated aiming to recruit.
The main purpose of the fair was to create employment opportunity for people with disabilities and to inform and encourage the recruiting companies about the skills and capabilities of such people

CARE launches health project for RMG workers

With a view to helping the garment workers tackle health problems, CARE International launched the second phase of HALOW [Health Access and Linkage Opportunities for Workers] project.
