Bangladesh’s share in global clothing jumps to 6.4%

Bangladesh’s share of the global clothing market rose again in 2016 as the country sealed its place as the second largest exporter of apparel products – despite sluggish export growth and lacklustre demand, Dhaka Tribune reported.

According to the World Trade Statistical Review 2017 released on Friday by the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Bangladesh’s global market share in clothing rose to 6.4% in 2016, an increase of 0.50% over the previous year, the report added.

Govt urged to buy equipment to relieve Ctg port congestion

Apparel makers have urged the government to procure container-handling equipment to relieve congestion at Chittagong port and ease the pressure on the export-oriented garments industry, Dhaka Tribune reported.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Md Siddiqur Rahman made the call at a press briefing in the capital on Monday, the report added.

Dhaka set to sign UN paperless trade pact

The country will benefit from introducing paperless trade that can reduce trading time and cost while ensuring trust, accountability and transparency in the system, the Financial Express reported.

They placed importance on capacity building for implementing the electronic system for all kinds of business transactions, and carrying out study on the costs of transitional period, the report added.
