Power Division plans for floating solar power plant on Kaptai Lake

The Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) has initiated a plan to set up floating solar power plants. Implemented with the financial support of donor agencies, the pilot projects would likely be started at Kaptai Lake and canal of Teesta Water Barrage.
A good number of floating solar power plants have already been set up in 12 countries and the idea is getting popularity because of its sustainability in using water bodies where land scarcity is a big problem for setting up solar plants.

20 garment workers were injured in fire triggered stampede

Fifteen workers of Ananta Apparels Ltd and five workers of Rimi Holding Ltd were injured in Narayanganj yesterday as they jostled to come out of their factories when fires broke out. The incidents happened in the same area in Export Processing Zone of Shiddhirganj. The fire at Ananta Apparels Ltd was triggered during welding work in the store room, while the fire at Rimi Holding Ltd might have originated from an electric short circuit.

India interested to support Rampal airport construction

India has expressed its interest in building the proposed Khan Jahan Ali Airport at Rampal in Bagerhat. They also want to support in modernising Saidpur airport in Nilphamari. The prposals came in a meeting with the Indian high commissioner attended by civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon.
Khan Jahan Ali Airport would be constructed at Rampal, 20km south of Khulna city and some 110km from Jessore domestic airport.
