ILO records lack of quality jobs for youth

There was a lack of good jobs for over 35 per cent of the unemployed youth worldwide in 2017. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimated 70.9 million unemployed youth in 2017, which is an improvement from the crisis peak of 76.7 million in 2009. The number is expected to rise by a further 200,000 in 2018, reaching a total of 71.1 million, according to the ILO’s Global Employment Trends for Youth 2017 report.

100 million turnkey deal signed for floating LNG facility

A $100 million contract has been signed for the Floating LNG Storage and Regasification Terminal (FSRT) in Moheskhali of Cox’s Bazar. Summit LNG Terminal inked the agreement with a consortium of marine work contractors, a turnkey contract involving design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation and testing of the fixed infrastructure. The project completion date is 16 months from the time of signing according to Summit.

WB will provide $150 million for infrastructure development in key land ports

The World Bank will support Bangladesh with the infrastructure development in the bordering areas of key land ports to increase regional connectivity and trade under the BBIN initiative. The international organization will provide $150 million in funding to improve the infrastructure in the bordering areas as four nations — Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) — agreed for regional multimodal connectivity. The Economic Relations Division (ERD) and the WB Dhaka office will sign an agreement in this regard.
