48-hour goods transport strike begins in Chittagong

The goods transports’ owners and workers are going to observe a 48-hour long strike in five districts of Chittagong division from today. The strike was declared in protest of the government’s decision to impose fines for overloading on roads.
Due to the strike, all type of transport vehicles including trucks, covered-vans, pickup vans, trailers and tanks lorries have remained off the roads and highways in Chittagong, Rangamati, Bandarban, Khagrachari and Cox’s Bazar since 6:00am.

Bangladesh inks framework agreement for funding new energy project

A framework agreement was signed between China and Bangladesh to arrange funds for installing a single-point mooring (SPM) at Sonadia island which would facilitate the transfer of crude oil from mother vessels to offshore tanks and then to onshore tanks. Two 220km-long pipelines will be placed to connect the SPM with Chittagong’s Eastern Refinery Limited.
In completing the project Chinese Exim Bank will provide Tk 4293.12 crore and Bangladesh will arrange Tk1021.19 crore while the BPC will invest the remaining Tk111.95 crore.

EximBank of China to fund rail connection in the Padma Bridge

The Export-Import Bank of China has promised to provide funding support for building the rail connection in the Padma Bridge. The bank will send a draft loan agreement in November which will possibly be signed in early December after finalization.
After completion, it will only take about three and a half hours to travel to Khulna from Dhaka by rail.
