Government to give good practice award to ten factories
The government has decided to introduce ‘Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Good Practice Award’ for the apparel industries from this year. A total of ten apparel factories will be given the awards this year on the occasion of the occupational safety and health day. The factories will be selected from among BGMEA members each of which has 5,000 workers and from among BKMEA member factories which has 2,000 workers. The factories will have to apply for the award in a prescribed form.
BGMEA gets another year to demolish building
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) today got one year and ten days for demolishing its 15-storey building which was constructed illegally in Dhaka’s Hatirjheel area. The Supreme Court gave the one-year time from April 12 meaning BGMEA will have to demolish the building by April 12 next year. A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hussain passed the order following a petition filed by BGMEA seeking a one-year time for relocating the BGMEA bhaban.
57 RMG companies apply for land allocation at the Mirsarai SEZ
A total of 57 export-oriented garment companies have so far applied for land allocation at the Mirsarai special economic zone in Chittagong. A RMG Park has been proposed under the Mirsarai Special Economic Zone in Chittagong on about 500 acres of land. The BGMEA on Wednesday issued a further notice to its members for filling applications with the trade body by April 5 for the remaining 100 acres of land in the zone.
