Bangladesh RMG sector grows fast offsetting conspiracy: Amu
Despite international conspiracy against the country’s Ready Made Garments (RMG) industries the sector maintains a steady growth and has emerged as the largest apparel exporter in South and South-East Asia, the Daily Sun reported citing Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu.
Industries Minister pointed out that the country had made significant improvements in various fields including upgrading the garment industry, ensuring workers safety, fixing minimum wages, inspection of industrial factories and strengthening of surveillance and monitoring system, the report added.
Export earnings rise by a quarter in July
A strong performance from the ready-made garment (RMG) sector boosted Bangladesh’s overall export earnings by 27% in July to $3.21 billion, data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has revealed, Dhaka Tribune reported.
The RMG sector, the lifeline of export earnings, rose 17% on the same period a year ago to $2.48 billion. Knitwear products and woven products both posted 17% increases to $1.26bn and $1.21bn respectively, the report added.
