Export earnings from US and UK rebound after months of fall
Country’s export earnings from the United States and the United Kingdom rebounded strongly in July, the first month of the current financial year 2017-18, after witnessing a decline in recent months, New Age reported.
Bangladesh’s export earnings from the US and the UK grew by 18.86 per cent and 39.53 per cent respectively in July, according to the Export Promotion Bureau data, the report added.
RMG sector facing Stumbling blocks
The garments sector in Bangladesh is facing several stumbling blocks in its endeavour to achieve the ambitious export target of “USD 50 billion by 2021”, the Independent reported.
According to industry insiders, the country’s export earnings from the apparel industry have seen only a 0.20 per cent growth in the just-concluded fiscal year, which is the lowest in the past one-and-a-half decades, the report added.
Dhaka to request Delhi to lift anti-dumping duty
The government will request India to withdraw anti-dumping duty imposed on import of jute goods from Bangladesh, the Financial Express reported.
The Bangladesh Tariff Commission (BTC) has already prepared a required brief for reviewing the decision with the Indian authorities as per the directions of the textiles and jute ministry, the report added.
