CPD-RMG Study has gathered major databases related to export-oriented RMG enterprises from different public and private institutions and prepared a comprehensive database. This database is referred to as ‘Master Dataset’ which will provide the idea of ‘population universe’ of the RMG sector of Bangladesh. The dataset has been presented in the Second Advisory Committee Meeting of the RMG Study held on 20 November, 2016 at CPD office.
The meeting discussed, among others, the sampling method of the study and defined the sizes of the factories and the number of workers required from the factories for the sampling. The meeting also discussed the survey questionnaire which is expected to be presented to the members of the Advisory Committee soon. The questionnaire is expected to have questions not only for the main study but also for other related research on the popular trade and labour issues. The new CPD RMG study website, www.rmg-study.cpd.org.bd was introduced during the meeting which is expected to provide the up-to-date information about the ongoing study and provide an interactive platform for the interested members. The meeting concluded with the hope of continuation of the discussions of the RMG study that is expected to capture the layers of the economic and social transformation of the apparel industry.
The meeting was chaired by Mr Mikail Shipar, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment. The meeting was attended by 14 members of the Advisory Committee from, International Labour Organisation (ILO), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra, Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS), Embassy of Sweden, Embassy of Netherlands, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and CPD.
