CPD RMG Study Team Visits Evitex Apparels

The CPD RMG Study team has visited a readymade garments factory, Evitex Apparels in Gazipur on 29 November 2016. The purpose of this visit was to become acquainted with the industrial and economic upgrading at the enterprise level in order to identify appropriate survey questions for the enterprises and workers.

The study team was welcomed by Mr. S. Pradeep, Industrial Engineer, Evitex Apparels and Consultant to the CPD RMG study. He briefed the team about key products produced. According to him about 1,500 workers are working in Evitex, who produce different types of woven shirts that are exported mainly to the European market. Mr Sheikh Moniruzzaman, General Manager of Evitex joined the discussion and showed the team inside the factory. The team was briefed about assortment of products that are produced using various processes and different machineries that are used in many sections of the factory. Along the tour, the team was briefed on sections such as sample, cutting, sewing, and finishing. The study team also visited the warehouse where fabrics, threads, and other essential items are stored systematically. After finishing floor visit, the study team discussed with the General Manager and Industrial Engineer about their views on aspects related to the questionnaire.

The study team was led by Dr Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Project Director, RMG study along with Mr Kishore Kumer Basak, Programme Manager, Mr Abeer Khandker, Visiting Research Associate, and Ms Mastura Safayet, Programme Associate. The CPD RMG Study will carry on visiting other RMG factories within next two weeks in order to better understand various aspects related to the upgrading in industrial enterprises and thereby finalising the draft survey questionnaire.
