Gas prices in Bangladesh set to rise again

Gas prices are set to increase at least twice this year with effect from April and October as 28.32 million cubic metre of pricy natural gas would be added to the daily national supply from imported Liquefied Natural Gas in two phases. Earlier, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission had raised the gas prices by 22.7 per cent on an average in two phases –– from March 1 and June 1 in 2017. Gas transmission and distribution utilities would submit proposals to the commission soon so that the commission could hold public hearing to adjust the import costs from April.

Benapole port sees decline in imports and revenue income

Benapole, the largest land port in Bangladesh has been seeing a gradual decline in imports and revenue income owing to the exploitations of a syndicate. Traders have complained that in the Petrapole port on the Indian side, people from the municipality stop trucks to extort money. It takes loaded trucks 15-20 days to enter Bangladesh because of extra regulations at Benapole check post. Only 250 trucks pass through Benapole a day now — down from 500.
