Chittagong industries to get gas connections after nine years

After remaining suspended for over nine years Chittagong industries are set finally to get gas connections in the second half of 2018. The connections will be provided on first-come first-serve basis and the unit price of the LNG will also be enhanced. A total of 101 industrial units and five captive power plants will get gas connection in the first phase.

Rice imports highest in two decades

Around 22.59 lakh tonnes rice was imported in the first half of the fiscal year which was the highest since 1998-99 when a record 30.67 lakh tonnes of the cereal grain were bought from external sources in the full fiscal year. During the period of July-December the government imported 5.08 lakh tonnes of rice. A slash in import duty to 2 percent from 10 percent in August could be credited for the boost among other reasons.

Bangladesh private jute millers request measures to tackle indian anti-dumping duty

Private jute millers have requested the government to impose duty on exports of raw jute so that India is forced to review its anti-dumping duty on import of jute goods from Bangladesh. They requested the government to impose duty worth US$ 352 a tonne on raw jute exports from Bangladesh. After the imposition of anti-dumping duty, the jute milers saw a decline in exports of jute goods.
