Bangladesh’s ready-made garment export to US declines in January-April period
Apparel export to the United States (US) from Bangladesh has continued to decline in the current calendar year, Financial Express reported.
The report said that the latest statistics, available with the US Office of Textile and Apparel (OTEXA), showed that the value of import of apparel from Bangladesh by the US dropped to $1.74 billion in January-April period of 2017, which was $1.85 billion in the same period of 2016.
Accessories association demands 15pc corporate tax like RMG
Hailing the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2017-18, the country’s garment accessories and packaging makers Saturday said that good governance would be necessary to implement the budget, which was big in size, Financial Express reported.
The report said that in a statement, they appreciated the corporate tax cut for the readymade garments companies from 20 per cent to 15 per cent, but expressed dissatisfaction over keeping the tax at existing 35 per cent rate in cases of the backward linkage industry of the RMG sector.
BGMEA to initiate move to provide food support to RMG workers
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association president Siddiqur Rahman on Friday said that they would initiate a move to provide food support to the apparel factory workers, New Age reported.
The report said that BGMEA president Siddiqur made the promise at a discussion arranged by the Bangladesh Textile Garment Workers’ Federation at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity after the labour federation had reiterated their four point demands that included food support, healthcare, housing, and education facilities for the workers and their family.
ILO trains 239 labor inspectors in Bangladesh
The International Labour Organization has concluded a comprehensive labour inspection training programme which has seen 239 inspectors gain the skills needed to boost working conditions and worker safety in Bangladesh, Fibre 2fashion reported. The report said that the course covered a wide range of subjects that will enhance the professional skills of inspectors including labour market-related policies.
