While this is a clear indication of the country’s fast growing energy demand, the country’s gas reserve has decreased to 12.88 TCF in the producing and non-producing fields.

Non-performing loans: a looming problem for banks
Non-performing loans are rising worryingly in the banks of Bangladesh while too little has been done to remedy the problem. Despite a growing concern over the problem in the financial arena, around 11 per cent of the country’s banks did not have an ‘in-depth’ look into the issue of NPLs in the past year. The observations came out from an industry-wide survey on the banking as well as financial sector. It also shows that around 3.0 per cent of the country’s banks had not assessed their past NPL-reduction strategies at all while 36 per cent did so only on an ad-hoc basis.
