Govt. upgrades labour directorate to labour department
Government of Bangladesh has upgraded directorate of labour to labour department with the approval of 209 new posts and six regional offices. The move was made for addressing the rights issues of the rising number of workers properly. The total manpower of the department of labour will be increased to 921 from existing 712, according to the labour ministry officials.
A circular was issued by the labour ministry on Monday announcing the upgrade which would take effect with in a short time.
Bangladesh named Industrial Development Board member
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has enlisted Bangladesh as a member of the Industrial Development Board (IDB). The announcement came at the 17th session of the General Conference of UNIDO in Vienna of Austria.
Bangladesh will serve for the 2017-2021 term, along with five other countries-the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, India Pakistan and Iran.
Bangladesh govt. to approve 3 new banks
When some of the new banks operating in Bangladesh are already struggling for survival, Finance Minister AMA Muhith says the government is approving three more commercial banks. There were reports that the central bank recently rejected proposals for setting up three new commercial banks on the grounds that the deteriorating financial health of many banks, especially the new ones, does not allow any new banks in business. The Finance Minister defended the move saying there is still a huge market for banks as a good portion of people still remain unbanked.
