Experts and trade leaders on Thursday demanded the same facilities including bonded warehouse scheme the readymade garment sector now enjoy for all other sectors to facilitate export diversification and boost economic growth of the country.

'Export diversification would be possible only when adequate and appropriate policy support is provided to all export-oriented industries'. Speakers on Thursday said that in order to diversify the country’s export basket, export-oriented businesses should be given the policy support that has proved highly successful in bringing vibrancy to the country’s RMG sector.

Shipments of non-apparel items rose 7.49 percent year-on-year to $1.51 billion in the first quarter of the fiscal year as the country is diversifying its export basket to cut reliance on garments. Tea, frozen fish, jute and jute goods, leather and leather goods, furniture, ceramics, shrimps, vegetables, bicycles and terry towel performed better in the export markets during the quarter from a year earlier.
