RMG buyers’ new safety conditions annoy Tofail
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed alleged that the global retailers of Bangladeshi garment products put new conditions once previous ones are met in the name of ensuring safety in the country’s largest export industry, Dhaka Tribune reported.
“Buyers keep coming up with new demands and say ‘do these’ etc. Motive of these stuff is to create pressures on the manufacturers,” the minister said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of “Digital RMG Factory Mapping in Bangladesh” as the chef guest in Dhaka.
RMG exporters to float new platform replacing Accord, Alliance
The country’s apparel exporters have planned a new initiative, Samman (respect), comprising the government, BGMEA, ILO, trade unions and global brands to replace buyers’ groups the Accord and the Alliance as their readymade garment sector safety initiatives expire in July next year, New Age reported.
With the consent of government high-ups, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association has drafted a structure of the platform, the report added.
RMG factories’ digital map by 2021
A digital of map of the country’s readymade garment factories will be prepared with detailed information of the number of factories, location, number of workers, workers’ association, infrastructure and production system, the Daily Sun reported.
Commerce Minister Tofael Ahmed inaugurated a project titled ‘Digital RMG Factory Mapping in Bangladesh (DRFM-B)’ on Saturday at Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exports Association’s (BGMEA’s) building at Karwanbazar, the report added.
