Govt asks garments owners to pay Eid bonus by June 14
The govt has urged factory owners to clear the salaries for the month of May by June 7. Owners of industries, including garment factories, have also been asked to pay the Eid festival bonus to workers by June 14 to avoid any untoward incident ahead of Eid. Mujibul Haque Chunnu, state minister for labour and employment held a meeting to caution against any possibility of unrest before the Eid festival due to delay in payment of salaries and bonuses.
Bangladesh Bank asks banks to deduct export value for RMG central fund
Bangladesh Bank has asked all banks to ensure deduction of 0.03 per cent of the encashed export value from the export-oriented readymade garment factories for the RMG sector central fund. The BB issued the instruction as a number of banks refrain from deducting the portion of export value for the central fund. The amount of deposit in the central fund is not satisfactory due to non-collection of the fund by the banks.
US envoy lauds safety in Bangladesh Garment sector
US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat has praised the advancements in safety and compliance in Bangladesh Garment sector since the Rana Plaza collapse. She said the sector has come a long way since the 2013 collapse but the government and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association must do a better job at marketing the dramatic improvements in the apparel sector.
