Gas line for Industries outside economic zones still a question mark

Owing to the shortage of supply of gas, increased incidents of pilferages and a possibility of increasing the gas price in the domestic market next year due to the import of expensive LNG, new industries outside the country’s economic zones (EZs) are unlikely to get new gas line from next year. The market price would be fixed by blending the prices of domestic natural gas and the imported LNG.
The industrial units in the EZs will get preference in getting gas connections as quality supply could be ensured in the production hubs, commensurate with the government’s pledge to the prospective investors.

BERC increases price of retail electricity by 5.3%

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commisison (BERC) has announced to hike the price of retail electricity by 5.3%. On an average, the tariff was raised by Tk 0.35 per unit. Currently, the bulk tariff of per unit electricity is Tk 4.90. The PDB wants it to be refixed at Tk 5.99.
