Female workforce rising steady at 4.4 percent a year
Female workforce in Bangladesh has picked up an upward trend in recent years as shown by a recent study of the World Bank on Bangladesh Development Update-2017. With a steady surge by around 4.4 per cent every year millions of women are making significant contributions to the economy.
Egypt’s banking sector backs women empowerment
The Egyptian banking sector has adopted some serious moves to encourage and support leadership among Egyptian women. Led by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), the banks operating in the local market have decided to allocate a large part of their loan portfolios to women, especially micro loans, which serve female breadwinners in rural areas.
The programme comes within the framework of the CBE’s growing interest in the economic empowerment of women through credit grants or non-financial services and training.
Banks offering increased interest rates to attract savers
The interest rates on both the loans and deposits might increase in the coming months to cope with the falling deposit growth and significant credit growth in the banking sector. This indicates a strong possibility of a tight liquidity situation in the near future as predicted by many bankers and officials.
The deposits had a slower growth than that of the credit growth in the first seven months of the current calendar year as the depositors got discouraged to keep money with banks due to lower interest rates.
