Looming global trade war may affect Bangladesh’s economy and trade particularly exports as the US administration under president Donald Trump is planning to impose additional tariffs on apparel imports.

Bangladesh economy has achieved remarkable successes in all socio-economic indicators in the last nine years from 2009 to 2017 because of the government’s inclusive and pro-poor policies, according to experts, reports BSS.

For Bangladesh 2017 has been a mixed year of achievements and challenges. Though some macro indicators reflect the positive trends, the overall strength of the economy is weakening due to a number of developments toward the second half of the year.

As Bangladesh looks down the barrel of two humanitarian disasters beyond its control, its government and garment industry risks manufacturing a third. In August, once-in-a-century floods left one third of the country underwater, killing at least 145 people, displacing 300,000, and decimating swathes of Bangladesh’s agricultural heartland. As the water settles and recedes, aid workers say they desperately lackthe supplies needed to stave off disease.

Bangladesh economy goes on underperforming for some limiting factors like infrastructure deficits, and gas and power problems, notwithstanding some progressive growth, says a premier trade body. The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) gave such findings in its Review of Economic Situation in Bangladesh for the first quarter (Q1) of the fiscal year (FY) 2017-18.
