Despite an impressive growth of our Gross Domestic Product over two decades, the contribution of exports to GDP remains disappointing low, and is on a declining trend for a few years now.

Bangladesh’s export earnings rose by 6.86% to $14.56 billion in the first five months of the current fiscal year, with the RMG sector being the largest contributor to this growth.

Foreign buyers prefer Bangladesh because of lower wages. China is raising the workers’ wages and concentrating on IT and value added products. The leather industry has been struggling, despite the government declaring it as the “Product of the Year-2017”.
