Strengthening the Social Dialogue Process within a Weak Enabling Environment: The Case of Bangladesh’s RMG Industry examines the state of social dialogue in the backdrop of a weak enabling environment in the RMG sector of Bangladesh during the post-Rana Plaza period.

The study analyses industrial unrests in the RMG sector in terms of the reasons behind the unrests, the process followed for conflict resolution and its effectiveness and puts forward necessary suggestions for harboring better industrial relations in the RMG sector.

It aims to present a conceptual framework and a clear understanding of the levels of social dialogue and the institutional framework required for establishing a positive enabling environment in Bangladesh’s RMG sector.

The study is supported by International Labor Organization (ILO), as part of their project titled ‘Promoting Social Dialogue and Harmonious Industrial Relations in Bangladesh Ready-Made Garment Industry’ which is supported by the Governments of Denmark and Sweden.
