Govt. may form minimum wage board by next week

Bangladesh government may form the minimum wage board by next week for reviewing the wages of the country’s readymade garment workers. The labour ministry will hold a meeting tomorrow to finalise the decision. Nominated names for board representatives have already been sent to the ministry by the factory owners and workers’ organisations. After the board is formed, it will have to announce the new pay structure for RMG workers within six months.

RMG workers claim labour law violations at workshop

RMG workers at a workshop claimed that that they still had to face various irregularities and gross violations of labour law at their workplaces. Workers from at least five factories and three labour organizations participated in the workshop held by Bangladesh Shrama Institute (Bashi) in co-operation with Aid Foundation. The workers made allegations against the employers including refusal to provide appointment letters and service books. They further claimed that workers lost their jobs if they expressed the intention to form unions.

India to link highway corridors to international trade points with Bangladesh

India has decided to undertake a plan to link its major highway corridors to international trade points with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar at a cost of Rs 25,000 crore. A mega plan to build 83,677 km of highways by March 2022 at a cost of about Rs 7 trillion has been approved by the Indian cabinet as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana project.
