Seven local firms get approval for overseas investment

Bangladesh Bank has approved the proposals of seven local firms to bring their capital aboard for investment, Dhaka Tribune reported.

Of the firms, Square Pharmaceuticals will invest $8 million in Kenya and DBL Group will invest $8 million to build an RMG factory in Ethiopi, the report added.

Stuck in the middle

Hundreds of mid-level managerial staff in the apparel sector are denied the legal entitlements accorded to their co-workers from the production level, because of the particular wording of the labour law, Dhaka Tribune reported.

Apart from line workers, thousands of people in the apparel industry work in a wide range of managerial positions, starting from production managers and merchandisers up to general managers, the report added.
