Why do RMG owners never make the top taxpayers list?

The readymade garments industry contributes over 13% to the GDP of Bangladesh and more than 82% to overall export earnings, and yet RMG manufacturers are nowhere to be found on the latest list of the highest taxpayers in the country, English language daily Dhaka Tribune reported.

The report said that figures issued on Wednesday by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) revealed the highest individual taxpayer for the fiscal year 2015-16 as Haji M Kaus Mia, the owner of Hakimpuri Jarda.

Bangladesh, Austria to boost cooperation in trade and investment

Bangladesh and Austria have agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in several sectors, especially in trade and investment, bdnews24.com reported.

The report said that the decision was announced after a meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Kern on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister returned to Dhaka on Wednesday morning after her visit to Vienna, where she attended a conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency or IAEA, marking its 60 years.
