63% ADP allocations spent in July-May

The government spent almost 63 per cent of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) allocations in the 11 months to May of fiscal year (FY) 2017-18. The rate of the development budget spending is two percentage points lower than that of the corresponding period in FY 2016-17. The project implementing agencies will have to spend the remaining 37 per cent of the Tk 1.57-trillion ADP outlay of FY ’18.

Another Tk 1,400 core funding approved for Padma Bridge

The government has approved additional Tk 1,400 core funding for the Padma Bridge project taking the total project cost to Tk 30,193 crore. The Bridges Division, the implementing authority of the project, had sent a proposal to the planning ministry to acquire 1,163 hectares of land at a cost of Tk 1,400 core. The cost increased for acquiring lands needed to dump dredging spoil due to river training along the bank of the Padma.

ADB to help Bangladesh promote microenterprises led by women

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to lend US$50 million to help Bangladesh promote microenterprises led by women. The fund will be channelled through Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). The state-run top financier for micro-lenders will then distribute the funds among small enterprises through its partner organisations (POs).
