Remittance inflow rise by 17.51%

The inflow of overall remittance jumped by 17.51 per cent or $1.80 billion to $12.09 billion during the July-April period of the ongoing fiscal year (FY) 2017-18 from $10.29 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal. The remittance inflow was estimated at $1.33 billion in April 2018, up by $27.41 million from that of the previous month. In March 2018, the amount stood at $1.30 billion. It was $1.09 billion in April 2017.

Capital machinery import jumped 30.36%

In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, import orders for capital machinery soared 30.36 percent year-on-year to $4.42 billion. The imports continue to soar amid concerns of money laundering by way of over- and under-invoicing centring on the national elections, due to be held at the end of the year. Capital machinery imports enjoy zero to 7.5 percent tariff depending on the industries and the location of the factory.

Bangladesh Denim Expo starts May 9

Bangladesh Denim Expo will take place at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka on May 9-10. The eighth edition of the international exposition of denim products will be focusing on equality in the supply chain. Over 14,000 visitors have preregistered for the eighth edition of the mega event. The aim of this year’s event is to draw attention to equal rights for workers as well as employers to ensure that both parties are treated with respect and can enjoy a good working relationship.
